Winter/Spring 2020 Professional Development Offerings

Principals

All Teachers

  • Read the Calendar – This is the chance to read books that are related to your work and interests and earn credit for it. *
    • Teachers use provided grid to choose books to read with reflection submitted at end of course
    • Runs from January 13-May 15
    • Register by January 8 - register here
    • FREE for Darke County member districts; $25 for all others

 

  • Collins Writing Across the Curriculum – John Collins will be providing a one-day training on writing across the curriculum; this training will occur at the Darke County ESC.
    • Grades 3-12
    • March 17 – 8:30-3:30 – register here
    • FREE for Darke County member districts; $150 for all others
       
  • John Collins School Visit – Dr. Collins will be demonstrating writing lessons at Arcanum Local Schools. AM session – grades 4 and 7; PM session – grades 3 and 5

  • K-2 Technology PD – provided by SOITA - April 16
    • Websites for K-2 Students – Morning Session 8:30-11:30

With so much focus being placed on integrating technology into the

classroom, it’s more important than ever to make sure that we are using safe, reliable, high-quality websites - especially with our youngest technology users. In this session, we will explore engaging, teacher-vetted websites that support the curriculum and that your students will be excited to use.

  • Tech Tools for K-2 Teachers – Afternoon Session 12:30-3:30

Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, but it can be difficult for busy educators to wade through all the latest and greatest tools to find what works best. Luckily, we’ve done the work for you! Join us as we explore tools and resources, to help with lesson planning, organization, productivity, and more!

Core Curriculum

  • Word Study That Sticks Book Study – We will study the basis and best practices around word study through this text and classroom application. *
    • Teachers are responsible for having access to Google Communities and purchasing the book
    • Grades K-6

Special Curricular Areas

  • Art – Dayton Art Institute Field Trip Professional Development Day – Teachers will participate in sample stations like: Ohio History: Art & Artifact & Art Off the Wall and the following sample studios: Warhol-style printmaking, Embossing, and/or Wax-resist watercolor painting.

  • Music – Cincinnati Boys Choir Field Trip/Learning Session and Choir Practice
