Fall 2020 Professional Development Offerings

Principals

• Principals

• Third Grade Reading Guarantee Updates – Wednesday, September 16 – 3:00

o Join LM Clinton, Third Grade Reading Guarantee Administrator, and Kara Putinsky, English Language Arts Program Specialist, for a discussion of updates regarding the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Many issues surrounding the 3GRG are still in discussion; however, Mr. Clinton will provide the most up-to-date information available. As this session is compliance focused, it is appropriate for administrators, coaches, and curriculum leaders.

• Teachers Read – This is the chance to read books that are related to your work and interests and earn credit for it. *

o Teachers use provided grid to choose books to read with reflection submitted at end of course

• ACT Workshop – Virtual Session

o Focused on Interpretation of ACT Data for Student Success

• Grid Method & Remote Learning Virtual Session

o October 6 – 10:00-11:30

o This session will introduce participants to the 3 pillars of remote learning to ensure success in any learning environment with The Grid Method. This self-paced mastery instructional framework can allow learners universal access to the curriculum, asynchronous learning / self-paced, and mastery based, growth focused standards-based grading and feedback practices.

o The foundations of The Grid Method as well as an overview of how it can help any classroom prepare for the unknowns we are currently facing will be discussed.

CORE Content Teachers

• Using ODE Tools to Enhance Writing Instruction Virtual Sessions

o Tuesday, October 13

o K-5 Gap Analysis, Readiness Toolkit & Using the ODE Expository Writing Rubric -8:30-11:30

 Participants will learn about the new K-5 gap analysis tool and the resource toolkits that can be used to determine where students are at the beginning of the new school year. We will also explore how these tools and resources can be use throughout the year to monitor student progress. Finally, we will look at using the Ohio expository writing rubric to help students understand how to use the rubric for the writing portions of the state test.

o 6-12 Gap analysis, Readiness Toolkit, and using the ODE Argumentation Rubric – 12:30-3:30

Participants will learn about the new 6-12 gap analysis tool and the resource toolkits that can be used to determine where students are at the beginning of the new school year. • Math Fact Fluency Book Study*

o Grades K-3 (4 and 5 applicable if studying multiplication/division facts)

• Science Meet-Ups (Ohio Department of Education)

o October-May
